Boardshorts & Swimwear Sourcing Checklist for Brands
Published: 2026-02-06
Before you place a bulk order with any factory, walk through this checklist. It covers the questions that separate a smooth production run from an expensive mistake — written for brands sourcing boardshorts, swim trunks and swimwear.
1. Product and Specification
- Is the exact silhouette clear — boardshort, swim trunk or volley short?
- Are the measurements and size range defined, with tolerances?
- Is the fabric specified by fiber, weight (GSM) and stretch?
- Are liner, waistband, closure and pockets specified?
2. Fabric Performance
- Is the fabric quick-dry?
- For pool use, is it chlorine resistant? Is there a test report?
- Is there enough stretch and recovery for the intended use?
- For kids, is UPF50+ sun protection included?
3. Printing, Color and Branding
- Is the print method right for the design and fabric?
- Are Pantone references provided and matched?
- Are labels, hangtags and packaging defined, with artwork files?
4. Sampling
- Can the factory produce a pre-production sample before bulk?
- What is the sample lead time (typically 7–10 days)?
- Is fit, stretch, print and wash performance approved on the sample?
5. Quality Control
- What does the QC process cover — fabric, print, sewing, packing?
- Do they follow an AQL standard for final inspection?
- Can they coordinate fabric and performance testing?
6. Certifications and Compliance
- BSCI (social compliance), OEKO-TEX (harmful substances), SGS (quality), GRS (recycled content).
- Can they document recycled or sustainable content for your marketing?
7. Commercial Terms
- MOQ (commonly 100 pcs per style and color) and whether styles can be combined.
- Bulk lead time (typically about 25 days after sample approval).
- Payment terms, shipping method and incoterms.
8. After-Sales Support
- Who is your contact for issues after shipment?
- What is the policy on defects or shortages?
Bottom Line
A good factory will welcome these questions — they show you are serious, and they prevent problems on both sides. If a supplier is evasive about certifications, test reports or QC, treat that as a warning sign. Take the time to check before you commit.
